For our monthly get-out-of-town trip we spent three days in Moab. First, let me say it has been a weird winter. The rest of the state has been plagued with snow while I have been sporting flip flops for weeks. I don't know how we, at 7,000 feet, have missed 90% of the snow. So Moab, like the rest of Utah, was getting dumped on when we arrived. Some people would have been bummed about the snow, but for us, it just adds to the excitement.
This was truly a rarity: being alone at Delicate Arch.
After a few hikes at Arches, we drove over to Canyonlands. Neither Troy or I had done any hiking in Canyonlands. Sure, both of us have visited Dead Horse Point a handful of times, but somehow we always missed actually hiking in Canyonlands. With the snow coming down heavier by the minute, we chose an easier, half mile hike out to Mesa Arch. With my soaked tennis shoes, I attempted to break the trail. I could see a faint outline of where hikers must have been a day or so before. After about fifteen minutes of wandering through the snowy wilderness, I started laughing to myself, "With my luck, these are actually deer tracks I'm following." Thankfully, the path led us to the arch.
This arch literally marks the end of the mesa. Right behind Troy is a several hundred foot drop.
Next I led the hubby to Upheaval Dome.
It was definitely a well-spent weekend.
