Deseret News 10K Results
I ran my first official 10K last Friday. I opted for the Deseret News run because it is a great course (mostly downhill) and running along the parade route is great motivation to not slow down. :) I finished in 1:03. Not great, but considering I haven't ran in about three weeks, it was better than I expected. :) My only gripe about the race was the organization of the first aid station. Instead of attendees, it was a self-serve setup, which obviously tacks additional seconds and/or minutes onto your finish time. But hey, if that's my only complaint, then it was a good race.

Volunteer: KCPW
The first of my volunteer opportunities in June was with KCPW, a local NPR station. I have volunteered at every KCPW event since moving to Salt Lake three years ago and honestly think this is one of the best ways to meet some incredible people. Usually work with this organization consists of answering phones during their biannual pledge drives (typically held in April and September), but in June I was fortunate enough to help out in their first annual rummage sale. I know getting up at 5:30 am to set up tables may not be your idea of a good time, but trust me, it is always worth it, especially for my beloved "Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me". :) If you're interested in seeing the other side of this favorite local station, visit www.kcpw.org and fill out a volunteer application or simply send an email to kcpwvolunteer@yahoo.com. I hope to see you there!
