Jazz

This Utah Jazz season has come to an abrupt end. Poor Troy is sans sports until BYU football starts up in four months, but maybe by then I can learn to take self portraits without cutting one of our heads off. :)

Fetch

In the evenings, we bring the dogs upstairs to spend time with us. Shady has this raggedy three-legged moose she loves to play fetch with. We toss it into the kitchen, cotton flies from the open leg wound, and Shady scampers to collect the doll. Abby, on the other hand, is only interested in the reward. She waits for Shady to bring the animal back to the couch then snags it. It didn't take Shady long to come up with a solution. After retrieving the animal, Shady ducks underneath a chair and throws her body atop her prize. Abby will whole-heartedly attempt to shove her 65-pound body in the small opening about three or four times. When she realizes she has once again been outwitted, she solemnly walks around the table, with her head heavily hung, and plops down. Within twenty minutes of our "play time", this is the scene in our living room:

Diabetes 5K Results

I did run this 5K over a week ago, but the website just uploaded the results. This was the first time I've experienced a clockless finish line so I had no idea where I stood as far as time. All I know is I need to work on my hill running. I knew this course would be steep since we were running from the bottom of Research Park to the top of Huntsman Way (behind the U). My time was bad- 34 minutes, but it really showed me where my weakness lies. Since I do 99% of my running on our treadmill, more than ever did I feel the need to incorporate the natural inclines surrounding our house into my weekly running schedule. Oh well. I have been working on the hills and I have one more run on Saturday.

International 2009: Europe

What an exciting year! Troy and I were planning on continuing our newfound tradition of Hawaii during winter by visiting Maui this December. But having already visited Oahu and Kauai, we opted to trade in our beach vacation for a 10-day Mediterranean cruise. This definitely didn't break my heart! Though I love Hawaii, I get pretty tired of beaches after a few days. So, October 6th we start our journey in Rome and travel to Monaco, Spain and Tunisia (Northern Africa).  I included a map of our destinations below:

I am super excited! The only other cruise I've taken was a Mexican cruise to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo with my sisters when I was 18. I can't wait!

Job

That's right- I got the job! Yay! I was a little discouraged when I heard the company had received over 75 applications for the position, but I figured I'd give it my best and went for an interview last week. Thankfully, they loved me and last night I got the call that I start on Monday!

I will be teaching fitness classes for children ages 2-12 at various preschools and elementary schools in SLC and Park City. I will also be coaching softball and soccer this summer in Park City. I absolutely love working with children so I am ecstatic about this position. The company also teaches adult fitness classes and I was asked if I'd consider taking on some aerobic or pilates classes in Park City. Of course I said yes! It's about time I get some use out of my certifications!

Well I am quite excited. I love to teach and I know this will give me some great story ideas for my writing. I'm glad my 8 years of babysitting, 1 year as a live-in nanny and work in a daycare helped me land the job. I didn't think those past work experiences would ever come in handy. :)

Relief 5K Results

Today was the first of my three 5Ks this month and I honestly don't think the other two races could be any worse than this one. A large snow storm has persisted for a couple days now, making the course less than ideal for running. And this morning the snow just kept on falling. To top it off, the roads weren't closed for the race so roughly 200 runners were congested on the wet shoulder while passing cars flung muddy water. Good times. If the conditions weren't bad enough, I finished with a horrible time: 33 minutes. Ugh. On the bright side, the weather forecast shows sunshine for next Saturday's race. Yay!
