Man's Best Friend(s)

I am an animal lover through and through, but dogs hold the most special place in my heart. I don't think I've ever met a dog I didn't like. Thankfully I married someone who shares my love for these sweet animals.

Abby came to me as a graduation gift from Troy. She is an English Pointer/Beagle mix. I had been looking at getting a dog, but had three restrictions: it had to come from the Humane Society, it couldn't be a puppy (puppies always get adopted first) and it had to have been there for awhile. When Troy found Abby, she was cooped in a small kennel barely tall enough for her to stand in. She was overweight and after a month at the pound, close to her "expiration date". I am so happy Troy chose her. She is the perfect addition to our family.

Shady. What a funny dog! Troy has had this cute little Shih tzu mix for a few years now. She quickly adopted Abby as her BFF. They spend all day pacing the dog run and protecting the house from the moose.

Last Christmas Troy bought all the dogs new sweaters. Spring snuggles contently in hers, Shady tolerates it and Abby hates it. Abby has managed to wiggle out of her sweater even while in her dog crate.  Right after this picture was taken, Abby shimmied herself free of the evil green sweater.

Unfortunately this is the only picture I have of Spring on my computer. She is a quirky little dog, but I love her. She was once a stray that suffered from such malnourishment, patches of her coat had fallen out. Troy acquired her from his parents a few years ago and now we couldn't imagine being without her.

If you're considering adopting an animal, please make sure you are willing to make a long-term commitment. Far too often desperate animals receive homes only to be brought back to a shelter because the owner didn't fully comprehend the responsibility. It breaks my heart that people only desire puppies and older dogs, like my precious Abby, get overlooked time and time again. All animals, regardless of breed, size or age, need a loving home.

Spring is my favorite. I love that little dog, and I have to admit, I am not a dog lover. But I just think she's so, so cute.
